Celebrating Christmas together in Gravesham

This year Gravesham will be celebrating Christmas Together, with a packed programme of festive events organised by Gravesham Borough Council and Cohesion Plus.

Christmas gets underway from Friday 19 November with Gravesham’s traditional Festival of Christmas Lights from 3pm.

Featuring street performances from musicians, a life size interactive living snow globe, and entertainment from the cast of Robin Hood the panto on Community Square, more than 500 school children from 10 local schools will take part in a lantern parade led by the Mayor of Gravesham Cllr Lyn Milner.

This event is staged by Cohesion Plus, working in partnership with Gravesham Borough Council and Kent Equality Cohesion Council.

Entertainment starts from 2.45pm and the parade starts at 4.30pm and the Christmas tree on Community Square, sponsored by Reef Group, will be lit on the parade’s return to Community Square at around 5.25pm. For more information visit www.visitgravesend.co.uk

The festival of Christmas Lights and activities at Gravesend Borough Market are family favourites and I’m excited that we will be able to once again fill the town with smiling faces and festive cheer. I hope that many of you will join us to celebrate Christmas and indeed our community at some or all of our Christmas events”

Between 19 November and 31 December, you can find 10 festive animals around town on our Augmented Reality Santa Trail.

The Santa Selfie Experience at St George’s Shopping Centre is on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November.

Gravesham Borough Council are working with Event Prop Shop to bring you a Santa Selfie Experience. Dress up in your best Christmas gear, bring your smart phone or digital camera, and take as many photos as you wish in our Christmas scenes before taking a socially distanced selfie with Santa.

£3 per person, or £10 for 4, book via Gravesend Visitor Information at Gravesend Market or on our online booking form.

On Saturday 11 December, our Live Nativity parade is back, with a re-enactment of the nativity story starting outside St George’s Church at 12pm and finishing under a canopy of lights at the junction of the High Street and King Street. For more information visit www.visitgravesend.co.uk

Gravesham Borough Market has many Christmas events to help you find the perfect Christmas presents for everyone.

Twilight Christmas Markets showcasing pop-up stalls of seasonal goods will be held on Friday 26 November, 3 December, 10 December, and 12 December between 5:30pm and 8:30pm, and many of the same stalls will be available at Gravesend Market between 9am and 3 pm on 4, 5, 11, 18, 19, and 27 December. Seasonal films are being shown at Gravesend Borough Market, schedule available from www.woodville.co.uk tickets are £4 each.
