Get fully charged in Gravesend

New electric vehicle charging points have been installed in two of our Gravesend town centre car parks.

One fast 50kW charger and one 7kW charger are now available for visitor use in each of Parrock Street and Milton Place car parks. The 7kW chargers can charge two cars at any one time.

The Mayor of Gravesham, Cllr Lyn Milner, and the Leader of the council, Cllr John Burden, launched the chargers at Milton Place.

“I know these charging points are long awaited,” said Cllr Burden. “We have been working with our partners BP Pulse for some time to make this possible and I am sure these bays will be in demand from day one.”

Between 8am and 6pm the bays are free to use for four hours when a vehicle is being charged. There is no maximum stay period between 6pm and 8am.

Customers will pay BP Pulse (BPP) directly for electric usage.

Cllr Burden added: “As I am sure our residents know, we are committed to driving down emissions across Gravesham by 2030 and as part of that we need to reduce the reliance on petrol and diesel vehicles across the Borough, and particularly in Gravesend town centre.

“This involves a move towards low and zero emission vehicles, but the nature of many of our town centre streets creates difficulties when it comes to providing on-street charging points.

“In many areas, the infrastructure simply doesn’t exist to allow us to install chargers, while limited parking availability and road layouts also cause insurmountable issues.

“But these new chargers are an important step on the road to net zero which I hope will encourage residents and businesses to make the change to electric vehicles,” said Cllr Burden.
